The East Strand at Portrush is one of the most consistent beaches for surf in the area. It’s the one The Royal Portrush Golf Club overlooks. If you’d like a long way round, but lovely walk to the Open you can walk all the way alog the beach to the White Rocks and then walk back down the road to The Open. It’ll take a good hour, but if you have the time and the inclination, worth doing. Surf schools operate out of this beach, there are lifeguards on duty (please swim between the flags) and good facilities. It’s the beach right next to The Open, so if you fancy a break and a paddle, head on down. Warning, the water is likely to be between 12 and 15 degrees – might be a bit chilly – wetsuit hire and surf gear hire is all available.
