Portstewart Strand is the favourite beach of the dad & son founders of this site. We have photos of Benjamin aged 1 in a tiny wetsuit toddling into the sea. He surfed his first wave here and it’s the place we always come and hang out as a family. The beach is about a mile long and, as it’s owned by the National Trust, you can bring your car onto it which is pretty useful (free for National Trust members, a few pounds for non members). It’s a lovely walk down to the end and back. Or you can stroll through the sand dunes – sand board down one of the big dunes if the mood takes you – or wander throuygh the dunes to the quiet banks of the Bann River on the other side. When it’s rough and windy it’s brilliantly raw and wild. If the tide and wind are perfect it has one of the best surf breaks in NI. When it’s quiet, it’s tranquil. Our family has grow up on this beach – we love it – we hope you will too! :O)
