If you’re into golf, you might be into sport in general. So, this section gives you a bit more detail about sports in Northern Ireland that you might like to see, learn more about or connect into whilst you’re here. With a population of only 1.8 million people, that’s just smaller than the city of Houston, Texas to put it in perspective, we’re proud to have punched above our weight on the world’s sports stage.

George Best, one of the greatest football (soccer) players ever, our golfers Rory McIlroy, Darren Clarke and Graham McDowell, boxers Barry McGuigan and currently Paddy Barnes and Carl Frampton, Alex Higgins and Dennis Taylor in snooker, Tony McCoy horse racing, Willie John McBride and Rory Best in rugby, Dame Mary Peters in athletics …

Why not take a trip to Windsor Park, our National Stadium, to find out more about our Northern Ireland football team which made a name for itself at the Euros. Will Greig’s on fire! Locally we also have GAA (Gaelic football and hurling/shinty), unique to Ireland and well worth a visit to some of the local grounds and clubs if you’re passing. You’d be made most welcome! As it’s summer there aren’t many sports events on, but we’ll find anything that’s on whilst you’re here and post it below.
