The Causeway Coast has the best surf in Northern Ireland. The main surf beaches are West Strand and East Strand in Portrush itself, a few minutes walk from The Open. White Rocks is at the far end of East Strand, just in front of the Royal Portrush Golf Club. Portstewart Strand you can drive onto, free with National Trust. All beaches have hire facilities for boards and wetsuits. As for all the other beaches, beware of rips. We have quite a few deadly ones, so please surf only where there are life guards if you’re not a pro. In this section we’ll show you how to do a bit of surfing in between the golf if the waves are great and you fancy a dip. Word of warning – our water is cold. Don’t let that put you off, just hire a good wetsuit and you’ll be fine. Our guys in the hire shops will keep you right. As always we’d love to see your surf and beach pics shared around the world to help us encourage more people to come here – so please tag with #causewaycoast and #NI. Enjoy the surf! :O)
